Vintage Mercier Bike Now Sold
Beautiful Mercier road bike, 56.5cm frame size from centre to top, 57cm top tube, centre to centre, 10 speed, with stamped fork crowns and hear shaped lugs, Columbus tubing, in used but excellent condition for its age. |
The paintwork on the bike still retains its glossiness and the colour is fantastic. There are few scratches on the tubes, they are in excellent shape for their age. There are some cosmetic marks just below the front derailleur, some small chips and blemishes, but generally the frame is in very good condition.
The bike rides well, shifts and brakes nicely, has fresh grease in the bottom bracket, no rattles and no issues. The wheels spin true and the tyres have some life in them for light use, but they do have some wear. It’s a comfortable and light riding bike, and is sure to turn heads with its distinctive colour and build. It has a nice set of components, all in pretty good shape:
Stronglight LX 100 double crankset, 50/42
Simplex SX 600 Rear Derailleur
Simplex Criterium Shifters
Mercier 26.6mm Fluted Seatpost
Mercier Course Original Saddle
Rigida 700c Rims, Atom Hubs
Guid Engraved Handlebars
Belleri Stem
Weinmann 500 Brake Calipers, Levers
Shimano 600 Headset
Shimano Front Derailleur
Lyotard Pedals
This is a rare and pretty special bike in excellent condition. It has aged naturally and has not been abused, and should provide years of great service.
Vintage Mercier Bikes
The bike is now sold but thanks for visiting this page, these vintage Mercier rose bikes are really something special and are difficult to find outside France. I bought one in 2016 in Normandy and undersold it terribly, I regret being so foolish. In fact, the man who bought it from me relisted the bike for over £150 more a few days after he bought it from me. Here is another Mercier Rose I found and rode in a thunderstorm.

This is a beauty, with many features of a frame I have from a similar era, although the tubing remains a mystery.
On yours I’m puzzled by the presence of eyelets on what look like Vitus rear drop-outs (mine has none, and takes a 26.4 seat-pin).
Also I see yours has top tube cable braze-ons, but none for the gear levers. Nice Bocama lugs. Nice Merciers are addictive!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Roger, and I agree with the addictiveness of Merciers, I’m always on the lookout for one as they built such beautiful bikes, especially the rose coloured ones. You’re also right about the dropouts, those were Vitus versions with eyelets, pretty unusual. What type is yours? I’d love to see a picture, if possible, please send it to [email protected]. Cheers!

Could you please tell me how much did you sell this bike?
I got the same in green, I would like to have an approximate value.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Pierre
Thanks for the question. I sold this Mercier bike for £200.
Hope that helps.

Mercier/colombus tubing is out of this world!!! A dreamy bike that even today can keep up with very expensive race bikes.
I ride one of those on a daily basis and I feel very comfortable because it is light and soft at curves. I love it!!!
Hi Alexander, I agree completely, it’s a great combination of brand and frame, a superb ride and best of all, a classic appearance. You are always welcome to post an image of your Mercier! Safe riding!
